Seiko “Presented by the Prime Minister of Japan” Quartz Pocket Watch from the 1990's (Ref. 7N07-001A)

Sale priceSAR 1,900

The Seiko Quartz Pocket Watch Ref. 7N07-001A, is an unusual Japanese presentation piece created for formal gifting associated with the office of the Prime Minister of Japan. Rather than a conventional retail Seiko, the watch is distinguished by the inscription 「贈 内閣総理大臣」, meaning “Presented by the Prime Minister,” together with Japan’s Paulownia crest (Kiri-mon), an emblem closely associated with the Japanese government and the Prime Minister’s office.

The watch is housed in an elegant gold-plated hunter-style case measuring approximately 42mm, with a hinged front cover protecting the dial. Opening the cover reveals a restrained cream-coloured dial with sweeping black Arabic numerals, slender black hands and a traditional small-seconds register at 6 o’clock. The classical pocket-watch aesthetic contrasts with the modern reliability of Seiko’s Calibre 7N07 quartz movement, which also incorporates a stop-seconds function.

The reverse carries the gold Paulownia crest and the presentation inscription “Presented by the Prime Minister", giving the piece its distinctive historical character. Particularly noteworthy on this example is the survival of the original protective sticker, still retained on the caseback decades after the watch was produced.

Completing the presentation is its original gold-tone chain and clip, allowing the watch to be carried in the traditional manner. The overall design is deliberately formal and understated, reflecting the watch’s original purpose as an official presentation object rather than an ordinary commercial model.

This example is offered in exceptionally well-preserved condition, with the original protective stickers still in place. Only light hairline marks are present, consistent with age and long-term storage, and the quartz movement is currently running correctly without issue.

It is accompanied by an unusually complete full set, including its original white outer box, black lacquer presentation case with purple interior and gold Paulownia crest, original chain and clip, instruction literature, warranty documentation and accompanying paperwork.

Produced during the 1990s, Ref. 7N07-001A occupies an unusual position within Seiko collecting: part watch, part official Japanese presentation object. The combination of its Prime Minister inscription, governmental Paulownia emblem, hunter-case construction, surviving protective films and exceptionally complete original presentation makes this example considerably more compelling than a standard vintage Seiko pocket watch.
