Seiko Moon Phase Quartz Pocket Watch 7424 from 1987

The Seiko 7424 Moon Phase Pocket Watch is an elegant expression of late-1980s Japanese watchmaking, combining the traditional proportions of a classical pocket watch with Seiko’s quartz technology and a beautifully executed celestial display. Its polished gold-tone case frames a champagne dial appointed with slender Roman numerals, fine minute markings and matching gold-tone hands, while the moon-phase display at 12 o’clock introduces a deep blue accent depicting the moon and stars.

At its heart is Seiko’s quartz caliber 7424, developed with a moon-phase complication alongside conventional hours, minutes and central seconds. The watch is accompanied by its original gold-tone pocket-watch chain and leather-accented clip, completing the formal presentation intended for the model.

This example dates to 1987 and bears a period Japanese commemorative engraving to the caseback dated 8 August 1987. Remarkably, the watch remains unused and retains its protective sticker on the reverse. Only extremely minor and insignificant surface marks are present from decades of storage and handling, while the watch is currently functioning correctly.

The completeness of the set is particularly noteworthy. It is accompanied by its original Seiko presentation box, outer cover, certificate, user documentation and original chain, forming an unusually well-preserved surviving set nearly four decades after its production.
