Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Carbon Steel Classique Fountain Pen with 18k Gold M Nib (Ref. 23544) from 2004

The Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Carbon Steel Classique is a distinctive early-2000s interpretation of the Maison’s most celebrated writing instrument, bringing contemporary materials into the traditional Meisterstück form. Model 23544, corresponding to Montblanc Ident. No. 5827, pairs polished stainless steel with genuine woven carbon fibre, creating a considerably more technical and modern character than the precious-resin Meisterstücks for which the collection is best known.

Its defining feature is the carbon-fibre cap, where the woven construction remains visible beneath the smooth polished surface and changes subtly as it catches the light. This is contrasted by a high-grade stainless-steel barrel and platinum-plated fittings, including the slender clip carrying the individual serial number. The traditional Montblanc emblem crowns the cap, while the three rings at its base are engraved with the Montblanc name, retaining the familiar visual language of the Meisterstück within an unusually modern material composition.

At the writing end is a handcrafted 18K / 750 gold nib with rhodium-plated detailing, presented here in Medium (M) width. The Classique-sized fountain pen uses a cartridge filling system and can also accommodate a compatible piston converter, preserving the practicality expected of a Meisterstück while giving the Carbon Steel edition its own distinctive identity.

Dating to Montblanc’s early-2000s production, the Solitaire Carbon Steel has since been discontinued, making surviving examples increasingly representative of a particularly experimental period in modern Montblanc design. Its combination of carbon fibre and polished metal places it apart from both the traditional Meisterstück line and the more ornamental Solitaire editions, giving the model a character that feels unmistakably of its era while remaining remarkably contemporary today.

This example is offered in brand-new, unused condition and has remained exceptionally preserved since its original production approximately two decades ago. It is presented as a full set with its original Montblanc presentation packaging and accompanying materials. The pen itself remains remarkably well preserved in brand-new condition, while the exterior packaging displays age-related storage wear consistent with its period. For the collector, its unused condition, complete presentation and discontinued carbon-fibre construction make this an especially compelling surviving example of the Meisterstück Solitaire Carbon Steel.
