Cartier Santos Stainless-Steel Cigar Cutter with Gold-Plated Screws from the 1980's

The Cartier Santos Cigar Cutter translates one of the Maison’s most recognizable design codes into an exceptionally compact gentleman’s accessory. Inspired by the architecture of the Santos de Cartier, the rectangular body is executed in brushed stainless steel and punctuated by exposed gold-tone screw details, creating the same contrast between industrial construction and refined finishing that has defined the Santos aesthetic for generations.

Its slim rectangular construction incorporates a sliding guillotine mechanism concealed within the body. When extended, the central blade passes across the circular cigar aperture before retracting neatly into the surrounding metal structure, allowing the cutter to return to its clean, architectural form. Comparable examples measure approximately 53 × 31 mm, making it small enough to carry discreetly in its fitted leather sleeve.

The reverse is engraved “Made in France”, accompanied by Cartier markings and the individual number 01037, while the surrounding exposed screw heads reinforce the distinctly Santos-inspired character of the piece. Cartier produced matching Santos smoking accessories during the late 20th century, including cigar cutters and lighters presented in the Maison’s characteristic red packaging.

This example is pre-owned and retains an unusually complete presentation, accompanied by its original Cartier red presentation box, black Cartier protective pouch and fitted burgundy leather Cartier Paris sleeve. The cutter displays visible surface scratches and signs of handling consistent with previous use and age, while the leather sleeve shows natural wear and patination. These have been retained rather than refinished, preserving the piece in its existing vintage condition.
