Cartier Panthère de Cartier Blue Lacquer Fountain Pen (Ref. ST140011) from 1990 (Sealed)

The Cartier Panthère de Cartier Ref. ST140011 is a striking vintage writing instrument from 1990, created during an especially distinctive period of Cartier design. Combining rich blue lacquer with warm gold-tone metalwork and the Maison’s unmistakable Panthère vocabulary, the fountain pen transforms a functional writing instrument into a highly decorative expression of Cartier’s late-20th-century aesthetic.

The composition is defined by its deep blue lacquer enamel detailed body, contrasted by finely fluted gold-plated sections and distinctive blue lacquer accents inspired by the markings of the panther. The barrel is finished in a richly marbled blue lacquer, whose variegated appearance evokes lapis lazuli, contrasted by gold-plated metalwork and blue lacquer Panthère detailing. The crown and terminal are finished with the sculptural detailing characteristic of the collection, while the familiar Cartier triple-ring motif adds another signature element to the design. 

At the writing end is an 18K gold Fine nib, corresponding directly with the original Cartier reference label identifying the piece as a Stylo Plume Fine. The pen uses a cartridge/converter filling system, combining the ceremonial quality of a traditional gold-nib fountain pen with the practicality expected of a Cartier writing instrument of the period.

This example is particularly remarkable for its state of preservation. It is offered in brand-new, new-old-stock condition and remains sealed inside its original Cartier factory protective sleeve, preserving the pen itself untouched after approximately 36 years. It is accompanied by its original red must de Cartier presentation box, white outer box bearing the original reference label, guarantee documentation, user guide and original Cartier ink cartridges.

The presentation is exceptionally complete, with the period packaging, literature and consumables preserved alongside the pen. The outer box displays age-related storage wear consistent with its vintage, while the pen itself remains sealed and unhandled. For the collector, the combination of the discontinued Panthère design, Ref. ST140011, original factory seal and unusually complete presentation makes this a particularly compelling surviving example of Cartier’s vintage writing instruments.
