Cartier Louis Cartier Rollerball Pen in Black Composite with Platinum Finish (Ref. ST170040)

The Cartier Louis Cartier Rollerball Pen Ref. ST170040 is an elegant discontinued writing instrument from the Maison’s Louis Cartier collection, pairing a classical silhouette with the restrained black-and-silver palette associated with Cartier’s more formal writing instruments. The original outer-box label identifies the model as “Stylo Roller Louis Cartier – Composite Noire, Finition Platine,” confirming its black composite construction and platinum-finished detailing.

Its elongated body is finished in finely fluted black composite, creating subtle vertical texture along both the barrel and cap. Polished platinum-finish appointments provide the contrast, including the sweeping Cartier clip, rounded cap crown, barrel tip and central trim. The resulting design is understated but unmistakably Cartier: slender, architectural and considerably more traditional in character than many of the Maison’s later writing instruments. Removing the cap reveals the rollerball writing point housed within a matching fluted section, allowing the decorative language to continue uninterrupted through the pen.

This example has been exceptionally well preserved and remains in like-new condition, presenting beautifully throughout. More importantly for a discontinued Cartier writing instrument, it survives as a remarkably complete full set, accompanied by its original red Cartier presentation box, white outer box, International Guarantee booklet, Louis Cartier writing-instrument documentation and accompanying papers.

A particularly attractive example for the Cartier collector, combining the elegance of the discontinued Louis Cartier writing collection with condition and completeness that are increasingly difficult to encounter.
