Furlan Marri Mare Blu Mechaquartz Chronograph (Ref. 1051-A)

The Furlan Marri Mare Blu Ref. 1051-A is one of the original watches that introduced the Geneva-based independent brand in 2021. Part of Furlan Marri’s debut collection, the Mare Blu became one of the defining early references of the brand, with co-founder Andrea Furlan later noting that approximately 5,700 orders were placed for the model during a ten-day sales window. The reference is now retired from production.

Its character is built around a richly layered blue dial, finished with vertical brushing through the centre and surrounded by a contrasting chronograph scale. Applied polished Roman numerals at XII and VI anchor the composition, accompanied by slender applied hour markers, highly polished curved hands and two recessed subdials. Around the perimeter sits an unusual asthmometer scale calibrated for five respirations, a historic medical timing complication used to calculate respiratory rate — an unexpected detail that reinforces the watch’s mid-century chronograph inspiration.

The polished 38mm 316L stainless-steel case measures approximately 46mm lug-to-lug and 11.5mm including the crystal, giving the Mare Blu the restrained proportions associated with vintage chronographs. Its rounded, engraved “Tasti Tondi” pushers take inspiration from chronograph designs of the 1940s, while the screwed caseback combines circular brushing, polished surfaces and deeply engraved Furlan Marri detailing. A sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings protects the dial, and the case is rated to 50 metres of water resistance.

Inside is the Seiko VK64 mechaquartz chronograph movement, combining the accuracy and practicality of quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module. The architecture gives the chronograph seconds hand its smooth sweeping action and provides the crisp instantaneous reset normally associated with a mechanical chronograph.

This example is particularly noteworthy for its preservation. It is brand-new and unworn, with the original factory battery isolator still positioned beneath the crown, meaning the watch has remained unactivated since delivery. It is presented as a complete original set, including its Furlan Marri outer shipping carton, fabric presentation box, brown leather travel case, original paperwork and booklets, polishing cloth, fitted blue leather strap and additional brown leather strap.

For an early, now-retired Furlan Marri reference, finding a Mare Blu preserved in this untouched configuration adds substantially to its appeal as a collectible example of the brand’s first chapter.
